PARKLIFE The seven themed areas of Enchanted Kingdom come
under various names. Victoria Park, which has a Victorian era theme, is at the entrance to the park and features the Grand Carousel, from Chance, food and merchandise outlets and a variety of street entertainment. Midway Boardwalk, with a Coney Island theme, offers a selection of rides such as bumper cars from I.E. Park, the 150ft EKStreme drop tower from Larson/ARM, introduced in October 2010, a Roller Skater coaster from Vekoma, the Anchors Away Swinging Ship from Intamin, the Bump ‘N Splash from J&J Bumper Boats, the Up, Up and Away balloon ride from Morgan and video and redemption arcades. Boulderville, a Bedrock/Flinstones styled kiddie zone,
incorporates a range of suitably themed children’s rides from the likes of Zamperla, Chance and Morgan, while Jungle Outpost, with an Amazon theme, features the Jungle Log Jam flume ride, the Swan Lake swan paddle boats, a restaurant and fast food outlets, bandstand entertainment and skill games. Space Port, based on a space theme, provides guests with attractions such as the Space Shuttle Max, a Vekoma Boomerang coaster, a Laser Maze from Funovation, which opened in April this year, the go-kart track and a junior go-kart track, along with an events tent and more skill games. A mini petting zoo and safari tour, under the name of Zoori’s African Adventure, are due to open in October this year in this area. Brooklyn Place, which has a New York borough facades
theme, features the Rialto Theatre, an Iwerks/Omni Motion Master 60-seat film simulator and live performers, while the Latin American/Caribbean themed Portabello plays host to the Rio Grande Rapids, a 4D Discovery Theatre from SimEX-Iwerks/Hytechnology, the Flying Fiesta, a Zierer Waveswinger, the SRRX, a home-built horror walk through, and a paintball area. All the areas feature food and merchandise outlets in
addition to the ride based attractions and live entertainment on offer. At present there are around 83 retail shops, kiosks and carts providing F&B, merchandise, games and photos
looked after by approximately 250 employees. Currently the park has 51 food outlets around the site of which 24 are owned and operated by the park itself with the remainder being known commercial brands operated by either tenants and/or concessionaires. Enchanted Kingdom has two sit-down, self-service
restaurants that strategically straddle two zones of the park, Amazon Grill at Jungle Outpost and Launch Time at Space Port Zone. Amazon Grill serves a variety of meat, seafood and poultry dishes while Launch Time serves soups, pasta, a wide choice of rice viands, pastries and desserts, including EK’s signature “ice cream cake.” The restaurants have a combined seating capacity of around 600 guests and also have several function rooms where events such as children’s birthday parties are held. The park’s other main food venue is the fast food area
that can seat around 1,000 guests and also features a bandstand area where performances are held during park hours to entertain diners. There are nine speciality merchandise shops located in
the different zones of the park that carry specific themed souvenir items, while all of them also carry the branded products of Enchanted Kingdom’s main character, Eldar the Wizard. And referring to the skill games in the
park, Mamon explains that these have been given a new lease of life with the help of experts from the US. “We have expanded our skill games area
and enlisted the support of experienced operators from the US since October of 2010,” he says. “We have been amazed at how popular this new expansion has been and it has increased our per capita games spending by almost 100 per cent!
