Sim’s ESCAPE concept ushers in the next generation of leisure destinations


SIM Leisure Consultants recently launched its brand, ESCAPE - the initiative that represents the group’s philosophies, values and growing position in the global family entertainment sector Sim Leisure’s background and capabilities have been


built on the journey that Sim Choo Kheng and Paul Blunt have taken through the leisure park industry. Starting as employees within the industry, they had first hand experience of how parks should and should not be run. It is through the business partners’ frustration with


previous employers’ lack of ethics or care for the visitor, combined with their views that leisure parks were just there to shift real estate, which provided the impetus to found Sim Leisure back in the 90s. Since that time, Sim Leisure has become an admired service


provider with a head office in Penang and satellite offices in Singapore, Bahrain, the UAE and Spain. From a beginning as park managers, through to designing and building theme and waterparks around the world, Sim Leisure has lived up to its company motto of “fun is serious business.” According to the company, there is an alternative to the


“all you can consume” culture and Sim Leisure is taking the bold step to forge a new trail by redefining the theme park through its ESCAPE philosophy. “ESCAPE is more than mere family entertainment; it


is a set of philosophies and values that promote a better tomorrow,” said Sim, who was the brainchild of the concept.

about recreating an environment where family values and entertainment come to the fore. “Put to the right use, technology can greatly benefit mankind, but we must look to the past to guide the future,” he said. ESCAPE also takes an holistic view of its impact on society


and the environment. For example, gifts and souvenirs for purchase will come from local cottage industries rather than adding to the negative global impact of sourcing “cheap” goods from low cost countries. “Let’s put ourselves in the shoes of a visitor to ESCAPE and imagine the learning, fun and excitement that is
