Dietmar Hönersch, Chairman of the International Gallery Rifle Federation, with the debut South African Team
at the Phoenix Meeting.
There were eight GR Team events contested at the Phoenix and half of them were won by the Aberdeen Club, including Timed and Precision One GRSB, Multi-target GRCF and both CF and SB Advancing Target.
Very well done to all the record breakers, whether they be Phoenix, National or even personal best records.
International Matches There were two sets of International Matches shot at the Phoenix; the Team Timed and Precision One and Multi-target in CF and SB, shot concurrently with the individual events, and the International 1500 Match shot shoulder to shoulder on the Bank Holiday Monday, again in both SB and CF classes.
In the concurrent international match the competing nations (Ireland, Germany, South Africa, Scotland and England) declare teams of five shooters for each event and the individual team members scores are aggregated, with the worst score being discarded. The possible maximum team score is therefore 1680 and
94 Target Shooter
Scottish Team success continued in the CF Match with Scotland Blue Team (1666) taking first place from England Revolution (1662) and England Reformation Team in third place (1657). Another close contest in the SB Match with England Industrialists (1635) piping Scotland Blue Team (1634) by the narrowest of margins, with South Africa (1626) not far behind.
The Phoenix 1500 International Match conditions changed this year, with the addition of a GRSB Match and competing nations free to enter multiple teams of five shooters, best four to count (with a maximum possible 6000 points). In the SB event GB Red Team (5917) took first place from Republic of Ireland (5860) and newcomers South Africa (5831) a creditable third. The near duplicate result in the CF Match gave the double to GB Red Team (5965), with second place Ireland (5940) and South Africa (5916) third.
With South Africa on debut this year this represents an excellent overall performance and competition will be all the better for them joining the international GR community – a great start.
Some excellent individual performances in the
