Wescast to Expand Global Capabilities WESCAST增强全球生产能力
Wescast Industries Inc., Brantford, Ontario, Canada, re-
cently announced it will expand the turbocharger production capabilities at its Asian and European facilities. According to a company press release, the planned expan-
sions will enable Westcast’s facility in Wuhan, China, to produce stainless steel castings and its facility in Oroszlany, Hungary, to produce Ni-Resist and stainless steel castings, in addition to the multiple alloys already produced at each of the facilities. Te company expects the upgrades to be completed by the end of the second quarter of 2011. “Market trends of increased turbocharger usage were the
impetus for these investments,” said Ed Frackowiak, the company’s chairman and chief executive officer. “We are very pleased to have booked more than $100 million in aver- age annualized new and replacement business year-to-date across all of our business units, of which more than 35% is related to turbochargers.” Wescast is a leading supplier of cast exhaust manifolds for
passenger cars and light trucks. Te company employs ap- proximately 1,800 people in seven production facilities and five sales and design centers in Canada, Hungary, the U.S., Germany, Japan and China, and it has sales and technical design representation in the U.K. and France. Te company indicated the recent expansions are intended to build on its existing strategy of maintaining a presence in all the geo- graphic regions supported by its business units. ■

Te Cast Metals Federation (CMF), West Bromwich,
U.K., announced that Grainger & Worrall Ltd., Shrop- shire, U.K., won its Component of the Year award for a V8 cylinder block made for General Motors’ first purpose-built NASCAR racing engine. CastAlum, Powys, U.K., was given the federation’s Company Achievement Award. CMF announced the awards, along with its Supplier of
the Year award, at a ceremony held in late 2010. “Te judges recognized [the] Grainger & Worrall [cast-
ing] had managed to achieve the exacting standards they regularly achieve in the development of Formula 1 cylinder
blocks...in iron, an astounding technical achievement,” CMF awards organizer John Parker said. “Built using the Sinter- Cast process, the success of this casting is the culmination of investment, commitment and development by the company in all stages of production.” Cast in compacted graphite iron (CGI), the thin-walled,
complex and strong casting won for a combination of tech- nical achievement, including +/- 0.75 bore concentricity and the ability to withstand thermal loading on the core, which is 0.094 in. (2.4 mm) from the cylinder bores, and the role the component has played in the company’s succes as the major-
