came to these conclusions. When mag- nification is not a critical issue, using a dot sight that does not require batteries in order to function is important on a firearm that needs to be ready to go at all times. Although this carbine is equipped with a laser sight, by using the ACOG Reflex from Trijicon and not using a scope, the carbine’s profile decreases. The carbine and sight take rough han- dling, and when aimed, the triangular sight is always on and ready to go … and you are not relying on battery power. According to the manufacturer, its illuminated sight stays on for up to 15 years, which is why military opera- tors use such sighting devices … as do those who need a device to work when coming upon an unsuspecting predator. reLiabiLiTy
One word to describe this inex-
pensive carbine is impressive! To date I have fired around 700 rounds of factory loaded ammunition ranging from 115 to 147 grains without a single malfunc- tion. This was accomplished with the two supplied factory magazines. Since extra factory manufactured magazines could be hard to obtain, when you order anything, that may be the time to order an extra couple. My dealer was finally able to get me an additional two which also work flawlessly. an ammo Tip from hi-poinT Since any ammunition can fail, it
is a good idea to shake the ammo when loading the magazine to avoid hang fires. What this does is move what could be damp powder out of the flash hole, al- lowing the cartridge to be fired without any malfunction. This is also one of the reasons why, years ago, I got into the habit of tapping my loaded magazine in my hand before inserting it into a magazine well.
accuracy For a summary of how my 9mm
performed ballistically as compared to a small handgun, check the comparison table. Although the trigger pull could be called heavy (my carbine’s measured 8 pounds), that did not seem to cause me problems when shooting groups. In highly tuned varmint rifles and hand- guns, 2 to 4 pounds is usually what I prefer. A lot of this is mental — when I squeeze the trigger, I know it’s going to fire so that is what I concentrate on.

Observation at 50 and 100 yards: With Federal 115 JHP ammunition, I fired a three- shot 2-inch group at 50 yards that was 3.0 inches off the center of the target. Then I fired three more rounds at 100 yards and they printed 1.70 inch and 1 inch over the center of the target at that distance. Between 50 and 100 yards, the “bullet drop” between the two groups was 4 inches, which is not bad for what is a pistol cartridge.
