BOOKS EROTIC GOODS DISTRIBUTION
This column frequently looks at sites that have been developed on a budget so this month we paid a visit to a site where financial constraints are unlikely to have been an issue. This new Penthouse Store site is actually a redesign, created by Springle, which describes itself as providing, “market- leading ecommerce solutions and managed services for powering rich enterprise applications online.” Launched in March this
year, this is the first time the whole catalogue of
CELEBRITY MASKS ELECTRO STIMULATION
Penthouse-branded products has been available from a single website. This would appear to be a good idea but it does mean that explicit imagery can be seen on DVD artwork. This is unlikely to be an issue for most visitors but here Penthouse is also trying to go down the lifestyle route, which has proven so lucrative for Playboy-branded merchandise. To be fair, the DVD section does have an additional ‘Are you 18?’ page to click through before they can be accessed, and the images cannot be enlarged to full screen size (though there is a pretty powerful zoom function).
The site has categories for ENHANCEMENT PRODUCTS
Men, Women, Shoes, Lingerie, Couples & Toys, Lifestyle, Print, Movies and Personal Care, and among them can be found items as diverse as barware, candles, golf balls, posters, standees, calendars, hats, bags and Vajazzle crystal tattoos. Some may feel the whole Penthouse message is diluted a little by the presence of other brands on the site though, including products from Pipedream’s Fetish Fantasy Series, Swede, System Jo, BSwish, Trojan, Fleshlight, Wicked and Digital Playground.
As for the site itself, it is as slick as expected. It loads instantly, it’s brilliantly easy to navigate, the images are high quality and the text
descriptions are detailed. Now, should we order that limited edition book of iconic images from Penthouse back issues? It comes in a linen presentation box and it’s only $499.99...
