jan van gent is a Shpountz 44-40 gaff rigged schooner designed by Daniel Bombigher and built in France. She is built in cold molded con- struction of strip planked Oregon white pine with three outer layers of mahogany and Iroko. The strong and lightweight structure produced is beautiful, safe, and easy to maintain. Bombigher made a name for him- self designing vessels that reflected traditional qualities without shying away from modern construction techniques and equipment that im- proved the sailing experience. The present owners’ five-year circumnavigation aboard Jan Van Gent
is proof that this formula is effective. Nearly all sailing was done with a crew of two and her owners report that she is an extremely comfort- able, seakindly and stable platform.
