Saturday dawned with no wind. Boat Sloop Tavern Yacht Club Three Buoy Fiasco!
mastheads were sitting at odd angles to each other while the sailors met for the skippers meeting. While listening to the two shots of postponement from the SYC race committee that was attempting to start the Vashon Island racers, our own postponement procedures for this pursuit style race were reviewed and communicated… just in case. Conversations continued from the
morning meeting - “which way are you going?” Great questions to hear yelled

Arne Hammer and crew having way too much fun aboard the Santa Cruz 27, “Norn.” Wow... the “Three Buoy Fiasco,” it’s
over, it’s done, it’s in the books and man was it a good time! The Sloop Tavern Yacht Club’s and Port Madison Yacht Club’s inaugural Three Buoy Fiasco race garnered 40 boats on the entry list from 8 different clubs, doubling the best entry numbers achieved with the 30 year old format of the “Spring Race” which was rounding Blake Island.

For the Fiasco, boats started off of
Shilshole and rounded three marks, West Point, Jeff’s Head, and Halvorsen’s Tug boat buoy near Hidden cove, a distance of approximately 15 miles. The course included a start/finish line in front of Shilshole and three marks with a distance of approximately 15 miles. Any mark at any time in any order and any direction… including the start line, wow!
