#2 The Blue Boat Countdown

Jeff Janders Olsen 911 Blue Martini

The story: We weren’t sure if the term

“boat drink” encompassed all four variations; those being (1) drinks you make while on a boat on a mooring or at the dock, (2) drinks you make while motoring, (3) drinks you make while sailing, or (4) drinks you make after paying your yard fees. So here is one you can make for all four situations. Plus, this is a very simple drink to make - no fancy bar equipment, glasses or measuring devices, or pre-cut pieces of garnishments that always seem to slip and slide into places from which retrieval is impossible. In a 12 or 16 ounce class (that

can fit into your cockpit cup holders) pour: A four-count of Bluewater vodka (a four-count means start counting to

four as you start to pour the vodka, as in one-two-three-four). Add a three-count of Blue

Curacao Follow that with a two-count of

Fresca Top off with a one-count of

Captain Morgan’s Key Lime rum Add ice cubes (not crushed) To supplement the natural mixing

that occurs with each pouring, twist the glass several times between the palms of your hands – no shaking or stirring. This ensures that every sip is just a bit different from the one before.

When consumed at the dock, we

have found this drink actually does improve our scores, even if the race committee refuses to recalculate the results. When consumed on a beat, wind shifts take on a red or green hue, making it easy for us to stay in phase. And on a heavy air day, a double shot makes jibing seem a whole lot less scary. Enjoy!
