he 2011 Sperry Top-Sider NOOD (National Offshore One-Design)


regatta has once again proven to be an exceptional three days of Pacifi c Northwest one-design competition. Organized by Sailing World Magazine, the Sperry Top-Sider NOOD attracted international sailors and one-design classes from across the United States and Canada. Since its 2008 Seattle debut, Pacifi c Northwest sailors have embraced the buoy racing venue bringing together a diverse and competitive gathering of keelboats, skiffs, catamarans, trimarans and dingy racing boats. All together, 161


sailboats registered for the Seattle NOOD. Divided into 20 class divisions, the registered boats would be spread across the eastern shore of the Puget Sound racing in one of three designated course areas. Management of the courses and


the shore side events fell upon the official hosts, the Corinthian Yacht Club of Seattle and the Seattle Yacht Club. Managing a large one-design sailing event is not easy task. CYC & SYC are nationally known for their professionalism and determinism to provide the best sailboat racing possible.

NOOD offers an exceptional venue for one-design racing. One-design matches boats of the same design where the ultimate determination of performance is crew work and boat handling. Racing level, boat for boat, where the fi rst over the line wins, is for many sailors a very alluring challenge. Maintaining focus throughout a multi-day race venue can be the hardest task off all. Combined, the elements of one-design racing will serve to make or break a regatta. Day one of the NOOD began with


plentiful sunshine and very calm wind conditions. Divided into two courses, the
