Purple 4 3⅛” x WOF, crosscut: 48 3⅛” squares for half-square triangles

Half-Square Triangle (HST)


1. Cut the 3⅛” squares of purple and green fern once on the diagonal. Repeat for a total of 96 triangles of each colour.


2. With right sides together, sew one purple triangle to one green fern triangle along the long edge. Press open with the seam towards the purple.

Block Instructions Diagram 2


Block 1 uses HSTs, 3” green squares and G+B+G units. Lay out per Diagram 2 and sew into rows.


Repeat for a total of twelve blocks.


Block 2 uses HSTs, 3” pink squares and F+E+F units. Lay out per Diagram 2 and sew into rows. Repeat for a total of twelve blocks.


Block 3 is a four-patch blocks made from the H+G 3” x 5½” sections in Diagram 1. Repeat for a total of 35 blocks.

Cut 3” x 5½” Diagram 1 Using Diagram 1, to create strip pieces of the fabrics:


G+B+G: Make one strip set and cross cut into a total of 12 pieces.


F+E+F: Make one strip set and cross cut into a total of 12 pieces.


H+G: Make six strip sets and cross cut into a total of 70 pieces.


C+I: Make nine strip sets and cross cut into a total of 116 pieces.


H+G: Make 12 strip sets and cross cut into a total of 58 pieces.
