Pattern

4. Sew around the edge of the centre piece with black thread and straight stitch along the edge. Leave in the tacking. You may wish to couch a decorative thread along the appliqué line.

5. Cut a 2½” x 21½” border and stitch two onto both sides, keeping the same colour borders together.

6. Sew a bordered triangle onto the top and bottom of each right angle, working on opposite sides first, then the two remaining sides.

7. Cut a 2½” x 28” border from each colour: cream, sage green, purple and turquoise. (Match the colours from the triangles.)

5. Measure corner down edge. It should be approximately 27”. Make a mark with a quilter’s pencil.

6. Repeat from the opposite corner. Align the ruler on the marks.

7. Cut opposite corners of the centre piece. Check measurements twice before cutting.

8. Sew bordered triangle to side with right angle.

8. Join two strips together.

9. Pin the border from the centre and stitch. Repeat on the opposite side.

10. Cut a 2” x 24½” border and a 2” x 29½” border from each colour.

Using the illustration, identify the border strip colour accordingly. Work with the shorter strips first, stitching two strips together, centring and sewing onto opposite sides.

Repeat with the longer strips and stitch onto the top and bottom.

Romi’s Tip Please note: because of the

complexity of these instructions, depending on your seam allowance, you may have to

adjust the measurements slightly as you go, or trim to suit as you go. As this pattern would only suit an advanced level, anyone

making it should be made aware of this.
