Pattern


6. Remove paper backing and position onto the background, using photo to help with placement. Refer to illustration and place the border design onto the purple borders on the block.


7. When happy with the positioning, press in place.


8. Use a small zigzag or blanket stitch to appliqué around all edges.


9. Follow manufacturer’s instructions for fabric paper. Print the name, in Celtic font, and date onto the fabric paper. Affix to block by iron and stitches. Nikki used Celtic font 48pt and 24pt sizes.


Nikki’s Tip


Leave the needle down before you turn a corner when using zigzag stitch as it will help keep the corners neat.


Wallhanging Instructions


1. Fold the purple 2½” x 4½” rectangles in half, wrong sides together.


2. Sandwich these folded pieces between two face-to-face 2½” deep yellow squares. Te fold should be across the top of the sandwich but a ¼” down.


3. Sew down the left side of the sandwich.


6. Sew this new unit to the 10” x 4½” deep purple rectangle, following illustration for correct orientation. Press.


7. Sew new unit to the bottom of the block.


8. Sew five flying geese together, all pointing to the right. Sew this new unit to to the left side of the 8½” x 4½” deep purple rectangle, following illustration for correct orientation. Press.


9. Sew to top of the block. 10. Sew 1½” border strip to the top and bottom. Press. 11. Sew 1½” border to either side. Press.


FINISHING TOUCHES


1. Layer and quilt the wall hanging, trim wadding and backing level with the top.


2. Prepare the binding by sewing the two 2½” strips together. Press wrong sides together, lengthwise.


3. Attach binding as usual, using a walking foot.


4. Add a sleeve or rings to the back for hanging purposes.

Press the sandwich while it is still closed.


4. Press open gently, pressing the folded goose in place. Repeat for a total of eight flying geese.


5. Sew four flying geese together, all pointing to the right.
