Designed and Made by Sunday Best Quiltworks Quilted by Linda Camp Finished Size 69” (175cm) Square


This quilt was made using the Sunday Best Quilt Works HST template, though one can make the quilt using the traditional piecing as described below. A great size for a manageable project, this quilt can be used to adorn a wall or live comfortably on the sofa.


Please read the pattern through carefully before beginning. Seam allowances are ¼” throughout. WOF means width of fabric. LOF means length of fabric.


Half-Square


Materials ¾yd (.6m) blue for blocks ¾yd (.6m) red for blocks ½yd (.45m) white for blocks 2¼yd (2m) black for border 4¼yd (3.8m) backing 74” (187.9cm) square wadding


Cutting Instructions


30 2⅞” blue squares 80 2⅞” white squares 50 2⅞” red squares


12 2⅞” blue squares cut once on diagonal


6 4⅞” blue squares cut once on diagonal


20 2⅞” white squares cut once on diagonal


10 4⅞” white squares cut once on diagonal


2 12¼” white squares cut once on diagonal


4 6½” x 20” black strips for borders


4 6½ x 27” black strips for borders 8 2½ x WOF for binding


Triangle Stencil Sunday Best Quiltworks sells the Half-Square Triangle Stencil used to make this quilt. This template creates 32 HSTs in one sitting. The template works using fat quarter dimensions, fabric markers and can be ordered directly from Sunday Best Quiltworks at www.sundaybestquiltworks.com. For template users, create HSTs with template first and begin this pattern at Piecing Instructions; Triangles.


Materials


for Stencil For required 60 blue/white HSTs, substitute two fat quarters for ¾yd of blue fabric.


For required 100 red/white HSTs, substitute three fat quarters for ½yd of red fabric.


Piecing Instructions


Half-Square Triangles (HSTs) 1. Align two 2⅞” squares of blue and white, right sides together, and mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of the white square.


2. Sew ¼” on both sides of the line.


3. Cut apart on the drawn line. Press. Each square makes two HSTs. Diagram 1

Repeat for a total of 60 blue and white HSTs measuring 2”.


Repeat Steps 1-3 with 50 2⅞” red and white squares for a total of 100 HSTs measuring 2”.
