When measuring for borders, calculate the average of end lengths and centre length. Best results come from using this average for top and bottom and sides of quilt.

2. Sew measured top and bottom borders to the quilt centre top and bottom.

3. Sew measured side borders to the quilt centre sides. FINISHING TOUCHES

Layer the quilt top, wadding and backing carefully and without wrinkles. Pin layers together.

For more information on layering and basting, visit www.irishquilting.ie.

Quilts of this nature can be quilted in a variety of ways and personal style usually prevails. Don’t be afraid to make it your own!

Grids—outline the various joint seams of blocks.

Hatch—provide cross marks within blocks. We recommend quilting intermittent blocks with hatching and grid quilting others for stability. In this instance, identify hatch blocks and quilt the grid blocks into place first.

Individual—quilt according to block design. Echo quilting for appliqué pieces.

Tis quilt is heavily embellished so an overall quilting design is not a choice. Keep balance in mind when quilting blocks—if you choose to quilt blocks heavy and light, be sure it is spaced evenly.

Tip

Strips cut from the bias will yield at corners more easily and generally

recommended for quilts of practical or frequent use.

Create binding with 2½” strips.

For this size quilt, 242” of binding is needed. Once strips are joined for this length, attach with a walking foot. For detailed information on attaching binding, visit www. irishquilting.ie.
