Beauty’. Using a tonal variation with simple straight line quilting to play up the star-shaped block, Sandra teaches beginners the importance of dark, medium and light and how their emphasis can change the whole look of a pattern. Currently Sandra is teaching her contemporary take on the traditional classic Log Cabin (so good, the class has been repeated.) Sandra is keen to teach using her original designs.

Success as a Designer Sandra exhibited two of her quilts at the Gordon Gallery in June 2010 as part of the Mission Hall Quilts exhibition. She was the only exhibitor to have sold both her works on show. ‘Feathered Scraps’ is a skilled country-coloured scrappy quilt embellished with hand-drawn ‘feather’ trapunto work. ‘Out of Africa’ is an impressive batik quilt with reverse-appliquéd circles and detailed machine quilting inspired by quilt designer Libby Lehman’s work. Sandra hopes to exhibit in the Gordon Gallery/Mission Hall Quilts exhibition again this summer. As part of the 2011 Quilting Symposium in Derry/Londonderry in June, Sandra offers a two day workshop teaching a mini ‘Out of Africa’ quilt.

Carol was very taken with Sandra. Smiling knowingly, Carol said to the group, “Sandra reminds me of myself when I was starting out 30 years ago.” A real compliment for Sandra, she enthused, “it was a pleasure to meet one of my quilting heroes. To show her my work was just something else!”
