Bridal Show Betty is here to share her views and review of everything bridal on TV. And maybe even find a lesson or two.
In this issue, Bridal Show Betty looks at some of the latest reality wedding shows and what you can learn from them.
Hi – I’m Betty – and I’m a bridalshow-aholic. It all started innocently enough – watching Bridezillas and Whose Wedding is it Anyway while I was planning my wedding. But I just can’t get enough! I’ve even sat through all the episodes of Bridalplasty – evidence of my problem. So, I finally found a way to justify my viewing habits. I’m writing this column for WED and rating shows for you with mini-tv’s (1-5 TV’s). But I prefer to stay anonymous – known only by my nom de plume, Bridal Show Betty.
Four Weddings - TLC
Want to see what your wedding might be like from your guests’ perspective? Although it is “your” big day, it is important to think about how your guests will enjoy your wedding.
In TLC’s Four Weddings, four brides attend
each other’s weddings, rate the experience and the bride with the top score wins a dream honeymoon. The brides have different styles, budgets and varying plans, and the guest brides are nothing if not brutally honest (aka catty).
What I love about this show is you get a chance to think like a wedding guest rather than a bride. Those details you are obsessing over may go completely unnoticed by your guests. And you’ll see that food and entertainment really are the stars of any wedding. Oh, and the gown. All the brides rate each gown and they can be brutal!
WED The Magazine
Take, for example, the bride trying to create a mini-truck theme for her wedding. Yeah, mini-trucks. Until this episode, I didn’t know what a mini-truck was and certainly had never contemplated a wedding theme based on any type of truck, mini or otherwise.
At the big reveal of the reception room, you see that David has indeed created elegance with mini-trucks. David said in his blog, “I ended up placing mini trucks around the perimeter of the reception space. Creatively downplayed by sheer white drapery in front of the trucks, her theme was incorporated into her wedding reception but not overwhelmed by it. Even the most outlandish event ideas can become an integrated element at any event as long as it’s done with style!”
David and his amazing team of vendors continue to impress, turning any idea into an elegant wedding day. This is a must see for any bride!
April/May 2011 David Tutera’s My Fair Wedding
Even as the wedding themes get crazier with each season, David Tutera seems to get more accommodating and kinder to the ever nutty brides on My Fair Wedding.
