even Disney World! We want to talk to you about everything. Let’s start with your TV career – what was your first show and how did this come about?
In the past, I had a fun show on the Discovery Channel called Party Planner. This show focused on planning a range of special occasions from birthdays to engagement parties to dinner parties and covered everything from décor to menus for each event.
WED: You’ve really become a Bridal TV staple with ―My Fair Wedding with David Tutera.‖ Tell us about the concept of the show and your role.
The concept of My Fair Wedding is that I step into real weddings three weeks before they take place to ―revise‖ the brides original vision – keeping her concept and staying true to her style, but delivering a polished version of it. Normally this includes changing the venue, the fashion, the flowers – almost everything! My role is host, designer and wedding planner and I am there every step of the way from the bridal gown fittings to the actual wedding day.
WED: Which themes of ―My Fair Wedding‖ have been the most challenging to transform? Which have been the most fun? Do you have a favorite?
Some of the themes really throw me for a loop for example Mini Trucks, Day of the Dead and Monopoly would all fall under this category! But in the end, once I get my head around the concept, and get to know the bride, it becomes a fun challenge that always produces amazing results. One of the best examples of this was Monopoly, how to take a board game and make it into a wedding...I ended up pulling the ―luxury‖ feel from the game pieces and game board spots and created what was one of the most beautiful weddings to date.
