Experienced Bridesmaid Amy
Smirnov shares her advice on helping the Bride on her Big Day.
Pssst. Pssst. Hey Bridesmaids, do you know how important it is to keep the Bride organized for her big day?
From the moment the groom pops the questions and she says “yes” her wheels are going to start spinning with ideas for her big day. Sometimes you won’t even realize she is talking wedding until she questions you to see if you were listening. So there are a couple of things that you can do to make her life and your life easier.
First things first, bridal shows! There is a good chance your newly engaged friend is going to want to hit one of these shows ASAP. Now, I am not going to lie to you--so many wedding vendors in one room can be very overwhelming to some Brides. Everyone wants to talk to the Bride and get her information. So to help the Bride, there is a little trick you can do, one word: LABELS! Make some homemade labels with the Bride’s information on them (Full Name, Wedding Date, Address, Telephone Numbers, Email) and then all she has to do is rip off the sticker and put it on the vendors card and Viola — off to the next table! She will be so stoked and appreciative to have such a simple gift take so much time and pressure off of her. Be sure to bring a big comfy bag with a shoulder strap to put all the pamphlets and freebies in too!
Next organizational tip — the Wedding Binder aka “Wedding Bible.” Its big, it’s full of great information and you hold it dear to your heart. Now they do sell

these on some of the wedding websites, but they are easy for you to make yourself too. I also feel that it’s a nice little “yeah you’re getting married gift!” Just buy a 3” 3 ring binder with a clear slip cover front, divider tabs, notebook paper, a blank calendar, pencil case, pens and pencils. To add a special touch, print out a picture of the happy couple, with their names and wedding date underneath and slip it into the clear front cover. For the dividers, here are some categories to star with: Wedding Dresses, Ceremony, Reception, DJ/Band, Photographer, Flowers, Bridesmaid Dresses, Groomsman Tux’s. She can always add more later. You won’t believe how useful this tool is! My “Wedding Bible” has been through four weddings now and is still going strong!
Finally, help the bride keep track of her appointments. That way if you have time and she needs you, you can make it to them too. It’s also important for you to keep all the Bridesmaids in the wedding loop. As a Bridesmaid you also want to make sure you pay attention to the conversations you have with the Bride. She will appreciate it if you can recall the little things.
In the end Bridesmaids its all about living in the moment. Cherishing every bit of this experience that you can. You don't want to look back one day and wished that you had been there more. You know deep down that no matter what type of Bride you have (crazy or calm), you love her or you wouldn't have told her yes!
