Cleaning Up Your Food Act-Yet Again?


Finally, warmer weather is coming! Many of you have endured a long cold winter and are probably more than ready to peel off some of those layers! For those that have made yet another list of New Year’s resolutions, how many have you kept? If one of those resolutions was to make a commitment to clean up your food act, how are you doing? Did you start out like gangbusters, only to fall prey to too many doughnuts at the office for breakfast, too many trips through the fast food lane for lunch and one too many happy hours after work with your friends? And how many of you are still looking in the mirror with despair wondering if you’ll ever lose that tummy before your next bridal gown fitting?


To be honest, Meal Planning Maven’s spin on New Year’s diet resolutions is this:

So instead of declaring on every January 1st an all-out war against going out to lunch, never having a bite of birthday cake with your office mates or swearing off margaritas for the rest of your life, why not take MPM’s more practical lifestyle approach? Ya gotta admit, it’s a lot more fun!


MPM could talk all day about the subject of food deprivation and how it can trip up even the most well-intended dieter. But for the minute, let’s tackle the lunch temptations at the office dilemma. The key to not giving into too many calorie and fat- laden lunch invitations, is to promise yourself to bring a fun, yet healthy lunch to work more days of the week than not. - so- easy to grab and pack 100 calorie snacks- c’mmon, you know you do it!) that will cause you to ditch your lunch and gorge on that popular Chinese buffet that is around the corner from your office.


It’s all about making choices…


If you eat smart lunches most days, then when you are invited to celebrate your co-worker’s birthday with a pizza, you can choose to indulge without guilt. Why? Because you made the choice for the rest of the week to either bring a healthy lunch from home or eat out intelligently by ordering something like a salad with grilled chicken or shrimp. Of course, you may just decide to forgo the birthday pizza and order a salad instead… afterall, it’s having a good time with friends that counts, not the food!


What? You’re telling MPM you are too tired from working all week while at the same time planning a wedding to spend a few minutes planning healthy lunches to take to work?
