Cutty Sark SIN Regatta July 2-3

The weekend of April 9 and 10

brought the 26th annual Tulip Regatta to Anacortes, with participants from all over the Salish Sea. It was truly an Inter- national event with sailors from North Vancouver, British Columbia, Belling- ham, Leavenworth, Oak Harbor, San Juan Islands and Seattle. With 39 boats participating it was the largest number of registered boats for the Regatta, hosted by the Anacortes Yacht Club. The Yacht Club is the second oldest in the State of Washington and will be celebrating its 120th birthday this July.

The boats were divided into six

classes, according to size and type, with three handicapped fleets and three one design fleets: Santa Cruz 27s, San Juan 24s and F18 Hobie Tigers. Good winds on Saturday enabled three fiercely com- petitive races to be run on Fidalgo Bay, with finishers just seconds apart. But, on Sunday with gusty conditions and winds in excess of 30 mph, racing was abandoned for safety reasons. Full race results and photographs

available on the Anacortes Yacht Club website: www.anacortesyachtclub.org
