The weather gods blessed us with
an absolutely beautiful day, April 3rd, on Henderson Bay today, as 21 boats and about 30 sailors took to the water for the third annual Dead Man's Island 360. The rain held off and a steady 11-16 knot southerly persisted throughout the day. The low tide in the middle of the race made conditions exciting, as we ripped through about four feet of water on the back side of Dead Man's Island through “Beggar's Pass.” There were plenty of boats taking evasive action as the bottom came up quicker than they expected, but no one ran aground. A mix of boats, including a scow
and a couple Weta Trimarans, made for some interesting (and fast) competition, but once again the Lasers were out in full force. As if the 13 mile course wasn't long enough we split the fleet in half and did two short informal buoy races before hand, giving sailors the chance to

mix it up with one another and feel out the competition. Aside from a broken Laser mast and a couple capsizes it was a perfect day and everyone walked away with smiles afterwards. Congrats to John Hyry for finishing
first overall in the scow. Also to Teddy and Hanne Weaver who cleaned up in the Laser and Laser Radial fleets respectively. Everyone who did the race certainly deserves a pat on the back. A big thank you to Skip Anderson
for being the PRO and doing a terrific job. This event was made all the better with support from Corinthian Yacht Club Tacoma's Junior Program and Gig Harbor Yacht Club's Junior Program. Thanks to all the shore support team and safety boat teams you all did great. And thank you Dayle Nelson and Terri Lausten for keeping us fed. Jan Anderson took some excellent
