Morning Run-in with an Aircraft Carrier

Jess and I had overnighted at our favorite, Blake Island, outside Seattle last night, and had left in the morning to return home. Looking behind us at a point, we were surprised to see a massive floating city coming at us. The aircraft carrier had an entourage of Coast Guard boats and tugs following it. We maintained our course in the middle of the Puget Sound, and were quickly intercepted by a CG gunboat. They kindly told us to make way for the city (East), to get out of the way for the carrier. We did as told, then a couple minutes later the gunboat powered back to us and asked “is that as fast as you can go”!? When they’re doing 60kts, our top speed of 6kts doesn’t seem so impressive. By now the carrier was getting bigger by the minute, and the gunboat guys said: “it’s too late, you need to turn around and go West NOW!” We complied, and in return got some fun photos of the carrier. This is the USS Stennis, a relatively new nuclear carrier of the Nimitz class based in Bremerton).

The Low Profile Hatch has soft styling and sleek looks. Smaller ventilation hatches are suitable for mounting on any sailboat deck location while larger hatches can be used as foredeck hatches on smaller yachts.

Utilizing thicker acrylic and deeper frame sections, the Medium Profile Hatch provides greater strength and durability while echoing the sleek styling of the Low Profile Hatches. It is ideal as a foredeck hatch on larger offshore yachts.
