organization’s success. One such partner- ship is the relationship with our music partners at the Wisconsin Center for Music Education. Wisconsin Music Educators Association, Wisconsin School Music Association and Wisconsin Foundation for School Music meet several times a year to discuss and share the needs of teachers, school programming and music education initiatives. The outgrowth of this healthy dialogue is our ability to communicate and work together to serve students and school music programs. I am proud to report that all three organizations are working effec- tively and in sync with one another.
Several weeks ago, I had a conversation with a fellow WMEA member who at- tended last year’s state music conference. He told me that his music program had some staff reductions, the entire school budget was frozen and their program enrollment was growing. This anxious

teacher attended the conference, was reas- sured by friends and colleagues, learned several new classroom techniques and was motivated to put some of the new ideas in motion. The moral of his story was to maintain communication and connections with colleagues. Going to the Wisconsin State Music Conference versus staying home made all the difference in the world for this teacher.
Plans for the 2011 Wisconsin State Music Conference are underway and I appreciate all the WMEA members who submitted session proposals and participated in the January conference planning session. This conference is the premiere event for music teachers to gather, talk, share ideas, chal- lenge old ways of thinking and grow as professional teachers. We know music has a lasting effect on life, therefore WMEA has chosen “Music Lasts a Lifetime” for the theme of the 2011 Wisconsin State Music Conference. I encourage all of you to start making plans to attend the confer- ence October 27-28, 2011. Doing so will nurture, grow and invigorate your teaching practice for generations to come.
