I was following all the rules of censorship mandated by the Kuwaiti government. In Kuwait, the culture is closely linked to religion and therefore I knew I had to be very careful when introducing music so I did not offend anyone. AIS Kuwait had a growing music program. The students knew what music was and could tell Beyoncé from Rihanna, but they did not have a good understanding of basic music principles and proper music etiquette such as audience behavior. I knew I had to find a way to inspire them so I could start the process of giving them the fundamentals of music, which would then lead to more outlets to share my love and knowledge of music. I had such a strong urge to show them instantly what music could bring to their lives, but in order to get to that point, I had to meet them where they were and find a hook into their lives or else I would get nowhere.
