Welcome to this issue of Wiscon- sin School Musi- cian.

As we put the final touches on the magazine, I’m feeling a sense of revitalization that spring brings. It’s

not just the fresh air, hints of green grass and birds chirping outside my window. It’s something more…

At the Wisconsin Center for Music Education, spring brings a new season of opportunities to work together toward a mission we are all so passionate about. For instance, seeing our first state festival registration is like seeing our state bird arrive home. It’s a sign of spring and that invigorating sense of teamwork, unity, enthusiasm and pride is in the air as our staff and volunteers build on a nearly 80-year Wisconsin tradition.

Applying our talents and skills toward something we’re really passionate about can lead to great success, especially when surrounded by others who are do- ing the same, all while working together toward a common cause. Then, it’s no longer just a job. It’s a way to collec- tively make a meaningful difference. Every day there’s something new to be learned and shared as we help each other reach higher ground.

“Reaching the Next Level: Your Among Friends” is the central theme of this issue. From the first five years of teaching to becoming a seasoned pro, there is much that can be shared and gained every step of the way. This issue features articles that empower music teachers at all levels with a cross-sharing of ideas and resources for all sorts of topics, ranging from tools for survival and development of support systems to ways of nurturing, growing and sustaining a music teaching career for generations to come.

So, as you turn the pages, think spring. Freshen your perspective, and while you do, remember there’s a whole network of friends out there. Together, the sky’s the limit!
