Peggy Krasin Honored With Yale Distinguished Music Educator Award

Peggy Krasin, a cur- rent music teacher in the River Falls School District, was just selected to at- tend the 2011 Sym- posium on Music in Schools to receive the Yale Distin- guished Music Edu-

cator Award. The Symposium, founded in 2007, is held once every two years and is sponsored in part by the Yale Col- lege Class of 1957 and the Yale School of Music. Krasin was chosen from over 300 nominees across the U.S. to receive the award and travel to Yale on an all expenses-paid trip this June.

Krasin was chosen based upon her “out- standing accomplishments and vision as a public school music teacher.” She will have the opportunity to meet with other educators through the course of the three-day event in addition to attending an awards dinner featuring a keynote address by education reporter John Merrow. She will also have the privilege to meet Yo-Yo Ma while attending a special workshop and concert hosted by the International Festival of Arts & Ideas.

Krasin has been honored in the past for her exceptional influence upon students through her work with music. She was

awarded the Michael G. George Distin- guished Service Award in 2010, highlight- ing her important contributions to music and music education.

In addition to teaching, Krasin currently serves as the state co-chair for WMEA Listening Project, a program designed to enable teachers to provide opportuni- ties for students to learn about different musical styles, forms and timbres through listening. Her latest article is featured on page 20 of the current issue of WSM. She will be honored on June 9 at Yale in New Haven, Connecticut.
