unlikely to change in the foreseeable future, ruling out that potential source of new revenue. However, Incheon Airport says that it would consider building and operating its own cargo warehouse in the future if the airlines demanded it.
A new $2.7 billion cargo and logistics facility is planned as part of Incheon Airport’s 2011-2015 master plan. Indeed, the gateway recently signed a contract with Koramco Reits Management & Trust Co Ltd to build a new 33,000sqm cargo facility within a logistics complex at Incheon.
The $30 million BTS (Build-to-Suit) project is the first of its kind in Korea.
“The recent economic recovery is leading growth in air cargo volume, although the global financial crisis has meant that many businesses are now reluctant to invest in fixed assets,” says Ok-Chul Shin, director of Incheon’s Cargo Biz Development Team.

“This trend, combined with rising demand for leasing facilities, means that we have to consider new ways of providing customised infrastructure for potential new tenants.”
Network and facilities
Bellyhold freight carried on passenger flights currently accounts for 31.1% of all cargo handled at South Korea’s gateway to the world. However, the bulk of cargo (68.9%) is carried on freighters, making Incheon one of the biggest operators of all-cargo aircraft on the planet. Among the 19 carriers operating all cargo flights to Incheon are Korean Air, Lufthansa Cargo, UPS, FedEx, Aeroflot, Jade Cargo International, Air Hong Kong, Polar Air Cargo, AirBridgeCargo Airlines and Yangtze River Express. The combination of freighters and passenger services ensure that Incheon is served by nearly 70 airlines connecting 172 cities in 50 countries across the globe.
