The airport’s sustainable design stems from South Korea’s resourceful and conservation-minded culture. ‘Daylighting’ via numerous clerestories and glass curtain-walls increase the structure’s energy efficiency while nurturing 15 to 20-metre high Korean pine trees inside the terminal. Airport waste products are collected and separated for recycling, while inflammable wastes are saved and incinerated as an energy source.
About 90% of the water used daily is saved and recycled for cleaning the airport’s buildings, while landscaping around the airport included planting 40,000 trees native to the island and 600,000 flowering trees.
Incheon is inevitably developing into a sustainable airport
city. The Songdo International Business District features live/ work complexes, restaurants, a golf course, parks and high-rise residential towers, with a vision of more office buildings, exhibit halls, and an abundance of cultural riches, from museums and music venues to a gallery district. Featuring the world’s best-in-class amenities, the airport is unmatched in customer service, hospitality and amenities.
It is no surprise, then, that Incheon has been awarded
the ‘World’s Best Airport’ honour by ACI in its ASQ awards six years in a row. Incheon’s future looks very bright.
