regularly hold degree courses in its workplace when it joined forces with the Korea Aerospace University to launch Aviation Master and PhD courses at the gateway. At present 50 people are taking the Aviation Master course and another 15 are looking to get Aviation PhDs at Incheon Airport’s very own seat of learning. Incheon Airport’s commitment to the career advancement and motivation of its staff extends to a once yearly opportunity to take on a new role with the company when all new jobs are announced at the same time and existing employees are invited to apply for them. “During this process staff can take a look at what is available and, if they wish, apply to join a different team or department,” explains Lee. “The decision on who gets what job is left to individual team leaders, who get to pick the candidate they think is best suited for the job.


“Management does not get involved or interfere with the process in any way and I believe that this

sends out a clear message that we trust the judgement of our team leaders whom we are empowering in the HR process. The process also introduces healthy competition among staff competing for the new jobs.”


A new Leader Assimilation Programme is the final feather in Incheon Airport’’s impressive career development cap. The programme is a one-day event designed to provide a forum that allows new managers and their teams to develop an early understanding of their respective operating styles, communication patterns and business priorities.


This, says Lee, ensures that they can quickly start working together to “effectively address critical business needs and issues”.
