ncompassing approximately 15,000 acres, Incheon Airport is one of the largest airports in Asia and, indeed, the world. Its massive land area has been planned and parcelled out for complementary aeronautical and non- aeronautical (commercial) uses. Two phases of aeronautical development have been completed covering over 21 million sqm. This includes three runways along with their taxiways and aprons, a logistics zone with five cargo buildings and a 500,000sqm main passenger terminal and Concourse A providing a total of 74 gates.


The current aeronautical infrastructure gives Incheon an annual capacity of 44 million passengers and 4.5 tons of cargo.


Because of strong anticipated growth in both passengers and cargo, a third-phase of aeronautical


infrastructure and facility development has commenced which will add a 350,000sqm passenger terminal and multiple cargo and logistics facilities as well as over one million square metres of additional passenger aircraft and cargo aprons.


When these are completed in 2015, ICN’s annual passenger capacity will be increased to 62 million and its annual cargo capacity to 5.8 million tons. Under the rubric of Air City, two major business and commercial zones – International Business Centre I (IBCI) and International Business Centre II (IBCII) – and a sports and recreation water park have been sited to serve and to reinforce ICN’s passenger traffic.


Located just south of the passenger terminal, IBC-I’s first phase (165,000sqm) has been developed with private investors constructing and operating commercial facilities under concessions lasting up to 50 years.
