Kicking off a new future

SIX new, 5-a-side floodlit football pitches have been installed at Deeside Leisure Centre, run by Flintshire County Council. Teaming with strategic partner Alliance Leisure, the centre now offers the local community 3G turf football pitches, catering for both adult and junior football. Soft Surfaces supplied the pitch under the

contract with ISG and the development is part of a four-year partnership between Flintshire County Council and Alliance Leisure, which is to invest up to £10m in the council’s leisure portfolio. The aim is to create commercial activities that will secure the operation of Flintshire’s facilities as well as

attracting a diverse range of local residents. “Redundant football pitches were a sorry sight at Deeside Leisure Centre; we realised that the grounds needed considerable redevelopment in order to attract increased sporting engagement and usage by the local community,” says Cllr Dennis Hutchinson, executive member for leisure and public protection of Flintshire County Council. Plans for 2011 include an 80-station health and fitness suite, two fitness studios, a toning salon, new changing rooms and the first Welsh public sector day spa.

A perfect 10

BLAKEDOWN Sport & Play installed a full sized sand-dressed artificial sports pitch with fencing and floodlighting at Priestley College, Warrington. Funded by the college, the pitch was purpose built for hockey but is suitable for a range of sports in keeping with the range of diverse courses offered to students studying sport academically at Priestley College. The facility is also available to outside organisations. A customer satisfaction questionnaire

completed by the college rated Blakedown’s estimating and contract performance on the project as 10 out of 10.
