Improving access at WestQuay
WESTQUAY shopping centre in Southampton has opened a Changing Places toilet and changing facility to enhance the existing seven disabled toilets it provides.
Co-funded by WestQuay and Southampton City Council, the Changing Places toilet offers equipment beyond a standard disabled toilet for anyone requiring the aid of at least one carer. The company worked with disabled toilet solutions provider Total Hygiene to ensure optimal accessibility in the new washroom. The facility is larger than conventional disabled toilets and features grab rails, height adjustable changing table, height adjustable basin, privacy screen and a hoist. It also includes a Clos-o-Mat wash and dry toilet instead of a traditional WC, suitable anyone with issues of manual dexterity or balance.

Stylish surfaces
TILE specialist Domus provided an extensive range of surface products to von Essen’s new Hotel Verta in Battersea. Materials from Domus including engineered stone, onyx, iridescent glass mosaic, marble and polished porcelain have been used in all 71 bathrooms, as well as in the washrooms on each floor, the lobby, restaurant and spa. Bathrooms play a leading role in any
hotel experience. The standard and deluxe rooms and suites have varying layouts but all incorporate the same high quality core ingredients. Technical Stone from Domus encases the bath and vanity basins in the bathrooms provide a made-to-measure, luxurious and natural finish with plenty of storage surface and integrated access panels for ease of maintenance. The entire wall behind the wash basins in the male and female washrooms are furnished in panels of onyx. Each one unique, some panels are brown through to orange in colour and others a fresh shade of green, both blending with the modern, organic colour themes used throughout the hotel.
