Eye-catching colour
STRIKING colours from Johnstone’s were chosen for the £10m Amphitheatre Wellness Centre in Carrickfergus, in Northern Ireland. Painting contractors Corlin
Developments worked alongside W M Given Architects and main contractor Gilbert Ash to undertake the extensive decorative work on the multi-purpose indoor and outdoor sports centre. Corlin were required to decorate both the interior and exterior of the building. Johnstone’s Stormshield Pliolite Based Masonry Finish was specified for use on exterior walls in a variety of colours including blue, orange and red to complement the modern architectural design of the building. This premium paint coating is shower proof in just 20 minutes, allowing for all year round exterior decoration - ideal for this project, which took four months to complete in typically unpredictable weather conditions. Inside, Johnstone’s Covaplus Vinyl Matt and Vinyl Silk emulsions were specified in orange, turquoise, deep pink and lime green to match the centre’s contemporary furnishings and accessories.

The new facility has enabled the Hillingdon Cycle Circuit Users Group to expand the circuit’s usage Clubhouse completes circuit

circuit is used by 30 west London cycling clubs, but lacked other amenities such as changing rooms. The new clubhouse, funded by grants from Sport England and the London Borough of Hillingdon, therefore includes a meeting room, kitchen, office, changing rooms, disabled facilities, first aid room, training room and shower room. A modular system of construction was
chosen because of the cost implications and the tight six month deadline on the use of the grants. Wernick delivered and positioned the nine modules that comprise the building in one day. Internal and external finishing work took 16 weeks to complete from the date of delivery to site; approximately half the time required for a traditional structure. The building is entirely clad in ThermoWood, a heat- treated wooden finish that resists rot and has increased durability and stability.
