Peak performance

A FULL size 3G, fully flood lit pitch has opened at Matthew Arnold School in Staines after three years of fundraising and a £550,000 contribution from the Football Foundation.

The 60mm monofilament D-Vision

from Desso Sports Systems was chosen for the project for its soft natural appearance and high-wear characteristics. Completed by Agripower Contractors, the artificial pitch has already been used by a variety of clubs including Staines Town, Colne Valley, Halliford Colts, Staines Lammas, JB Rangers and AGC Egham. The school faced a number of

challenges on this project. The site of the pitch had to be moved because of an ancient relic under the school grounds and residents' concerns over the flood lights. And flooding concerns from the Environment Agency meant the school was not allowed to raise the pitch, which resulted in a lot of the initial digging work being done by hand then removed from the site.

Constructed on the site of an existing grass tennis court, the new facility allows the senior and junior sides to practice more frequently

Bespoke solution

AN ECB-approved triple bay practice facility has been installed at Urmston Cricket Club in Greater Manchester, meaning players can now make the most of top-class training facilities for the first time. The new facility replaces the single

portable cage which was wheeled out on to the club’s main pitch when needed, but was inadequate for the size of the club. The construction of the new triple-bay facility allows both the six senior and six junior sides to practice more frequently and the club can now roll out a structured coaching programme. The triple lane practice facility comprises two ECB-Approved Notts Sport Envelope system batting ends and one ECB-

Approved Notts Sport NottsBase D system batting end, providing varying pace and bounce between the lanes to cater for players of all ages and abilities. The Envelope System incorporates a low maintenance base system designed to imitate the best playing characteristics of a well-maintained natural turf pitch. The facility also includes an extended heavy duty cage and netting structure, additional perimeter fencing for added security, a back stop net, and an extension using VHAF NottsSward surrounds to provide extended synthetic run-ups and equipment storage areas.
