MAVADO

I’m talking to the good god himself, Mavado. You all good man?

Yes brother. I know you are in the UK right now for the winter fest tour with ‘Gyptian’ as well. You have been here a few times, do you like the UK and what exactly do you like about it? UK fans are like the same all over the rest of the world and have a lot of love for me, you know what I mean. A lot of my friends live here in the UK, so when I get down here there is a lot of love so im here, you

know what I mean.

You have collaborated with some of the biggest artists in the world such as Wyclef, Jay-Z, Lil Kim, Busta Rhymes, Dead Prez, I mean you have been in Drake’s video ‘Find Your Love’ as well. So people can under- stand where you are coming from, but life growing up on ‘Cassava Beach’, what was like that for you? Well you know, a boy grows up, you know what I mean. I know all the ghetto things already. It’s a struggle, you just need to fight the fight and

get the chances that come out of this. And I’ve done it all.

Like I said 2010 was a big year for you, I mean the hits are just endless. So what can we expect from 2011 and from Mavado? More hit songs again, more than even now.

Ok, so with the show coming up in London, you haven’t been here for a little while.. Yeah just a little over 2 years now.

So what can people expect? What kind of show can the

people expect? Energy! Remember every time I come to England, I come lucky and I shut it down, and just go one back. Remember it’s been a while and I have a lot of new songs and so many new hits for the people. So the show is going to be a very, very great show.

So this tune “Mia tauk bo di poor di pavaty and di presha, cnt tek it nuh mor ghetto yute pon stretcha”. That’s the lyrics from one of my favourite Ma- vado tunes ‘Born and Raised’. I mean that shows you feel the

pain of the poor still. Here in the UK we have some big prob- lems with high levels of gun and knife crime. What would you say to the black youth in the ghetto right now? I mean you don’t know what’s going on. You know it’s just a struggle all over like I said. Same way in Jamaica. No one has crime like the little islands but what I would tell the youths is that they have to try and look towards brighter and better things in life. Because if people just get up and start killing people every day, I would be dead, you would be dead, everyone would be dead and

the earth will still be here, because the earth is the earth is the fullest they have. I would tell the youths that they have to just go to school and educate themselves and try to make the best they can out of life, you know what I mean.
