We caught up with South London born serial entrepreneur/multi- millionaire, Charles Gordon. Charles shares great tips on how you can empower yourself financially in 2011.

So Charles Gordon, How can an ordinary person go from nothing to being worth £50 million like you? I would say self belief, I would also advise any young entrepreneur to take fear out of the equation then you will find yourself unstoppable. But a major advantage was that I got my start in business at an early age, in my late teens, which was a great advantage in life because I had nothing to lose.
Would you call yourself a workaholic? A lot of people have this miscon- ception that it’s about working hard. Really it’s about working smart not hard. I spend much more time planning than physically working.
What would you say to the business owners that are struggling to grow their busi-
nesses? I would say focus on success instead of money, once you are the best in your field the money will follow.
What mistakes do you see a lot of budding entrepreneurs make? Coming up with a new business idea every second. Just stick to one idea at least for six months of your life.
What advice would you give to a creative person like an artist or dancer looking to benefit financially from their craft? I would suggest to someone in that situation to find a business savvy partner, a lot of successful people have done this like Jay-z and Dame Dash.
So tell us a little bit about the current ‘empowerment com-
petition’? I just want to open doors and create opportunities for the next generation. The winner of the competition will get business mentorship from me and also industry connections to help them achieve their goals. For those that don’t win this competition they can read my book titled ‘The secrets of empowerment’, I wrote it has a manual for entrepreneurs.
What’s the plan for 2011? To inspire others to win, continue growing my business portfolio including Genetic Records which is the biggest UK independent record label with acts such as Fe-nix, so there’s a lot in the pipe- line and if I can do it so can the Guestlist readers.
