When times get tough, angling is a great way to escape and unwind, and with the rock bottom prices at Newark Showground this weekend, the sport has never been more affordable.
N these belt-tightening times of cutbacks and economising, there is one event that can put a smile back on anglers’ faces.
For two days at Newark Showground you will
find just about every item of tackle imaginable, and all of it is being offered at ridiculously low prices. The annual pre-Christmas Sale at Newark is
an unmissable event for anglers from all over the country with the eye on an end-of-year bargain. They know that companies off-load their excess
stock once the first frosts chase many of the tackle-buying public back indoors, and want to clear their warehouses of the last of this year’s gear ready to stock up with new lines. This year, more than any other, has been one for
bankrupt stock, with companies that fell victim to the economic recession being forced to sell up. That means there will be over £1million worth of top tackle at Newark this weekend being almost
given away. If you are thinking of buying fishing tackle for a member of your family this Christmas, or are getting ready for a winter fishing campaign, or maybe you just can’t resist a bargain, then Newark is the place to be on November 27 and 28. The man behind the hugely popular annual
show, Roger Surgay of Used Tackle, said: ‘We know that money is tight out there and that the economy is bad, and so we are really trying our best to bring fishing tackle to people on a low budget. ‘And because we have been doing this for
quite a while now and have learnt a thing or two about what we do, the quality just gets better and better. ‘The Dragon Exhibitions Tour has been
brilliant, with great attendances and really positive feedback. ‘The Doncaster show attracted the biggest
attendance for years, and the Kettering show had the biggest crowd there for years too, and it’s all because of the bargains you get. ‘But Newark will be on another level entirely,
with better deals and more bargains than ever before and everyone working harder and harder to get prices down to an unbelievable level. ‘Where else can you buy £100 rods at £10
each, free-spool carp reels from £5 each, landing nets from £2 each, £50 carp keepnets from £10 each, bivvies and shelters from £10 each, 11-metre poles from £30 each, 13-metre poles from £100, trollies from £15, and platforms and barrows from £10? You’ll have to pinch yourself to believe you’re not dreaming. ‘Everything from a packet of hooks or a
disgorger up to a baitboat or a fish-finder will be
