I would like to have a 50, and I joined the Manor to try to catch the Amphibian. I had her over my baits twice, but she didn’t go down on them.”

One of Glenn’s favourite looking carp is this pretty 32 lb 8 oz mirror from the Essex Manor.

CARP GALLERY

■ Southern Gas Networks manager PETER KINGSBURY’s landed this PB 44 lb 6 oz mirror in a great brace with a 33 lb 2 oz. The 40 year old from Horsham, West Sussex, tackled CEMEX Angling’s Horton Church Lake with new Dynamite 10 mm Savoury Spice boilies.

■ Cotswold Angling employee KEV HEWITT fed over 2 kg of worms and 1 kg of hemp in three nights on an Oxfordshire stillwater and landed Single Scale at 41 lb 4 oz and Baby Poolies at 40 lb 4 oz. The 26 year old from Claverham, Somerset, offered a Richworth XLR8 pop-up in an ESP mini PVA bag of pellets.

fitter and butcher until Christmas. I tend to fish Friday afternoons to Sunday nights, to make the most of a session. My wife wouldn’t allow me to do more than three nights away.

Do you fi sh for any other species? I don’t deliberately target others, but if I see a nice big tench in front of me I’ll try to catch it. I’ve had tench to 8 lb plus, rudd to 3 lb 10 oz, bream to 15 lb, and pike to low 20s. I’d really like a double-figure tench, and maybe a really big bream.

Are you tied up with any bait or tackle companies? DT Baits help me with bait, and I’ve been with them for over 12 years. I use the Green Beast or Green Beast Cold Water in the winter, and I’ve also done well with Fish n Blood with Fresh Orange and Oily Chicken. I use the ready-rolled frozen ready-mades, as it allows more fishing time.

What advice would you give to any budding carper after a UK 40? You can only catch the biggest fish in your lake, so if you want a 40 you need to fish a venue with them in. I’d say you also need to be patient. On one of my waters there’s a new angler on there who you wouldn’t describe as the best angler in the world and he’s only had two fish this season, but both of them have been 40s.

Do your family fi sh? My wife Ros used to fish quite a bit with me before the children were born, and still comes occasionally. She had a 22 lb carp from one lake before I had a 20 from there. My daughter, Frances, also fishes a bit, and has a PB of 20 lb, and son Luke also likes his carping and has had them to 19 lb.

Do you fi sh any carp matches? I’ve fished in the British Carp Champs for the past four years with Lee Tomkins, and really enjoy them, as I think it’s just totally different fishing from what we normally do. Third place in the final is our best result so far.

Have you done any carping abroad? Not a lot, as I don’t have a lot of spare time or money, and we always have a family holiday every year. I have been to France twice, to Les Teillatts with Cross Channel Carping. The first time I had a bad draw and was at totally the wrong end of the lake and caught just bream and catfish. But on the second trip I was top rod and had 16 fish, including seven over 45 lb, with mirrors of 64 lb and 60 lb 8 oz, and a 52 lb common. If I had the money I’d go a lot more.

WHAT I LAST CAUGHT

■ MARK WOZENCROFT notched up his second 40 lb-plus carp from Wales this season with this 40 lb 3 oz mirror from a secret venue to follow-up a 44 lb common in the summer. The 42-year-old steel worker from Pontypridd, Mid Glamorgan, fished the margins of an island 50 yards out over 2 kg of Vision Baits Ocean boilies using a chod rig.

■ Spain is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for big carp, and you can see why as DAVID KING nabbed this stunning 45 lb 14 oz PB common.

Leicester-based David used two 15 mm tiger nut boilies over tigers and maize with www. extremafishingspain. com

A 43 lb 14 oz mirror from the Essex Manor, which has now taken me to 26 UK 40s.

WHAT I LAST BOUGHT

A JRC baiting needle, as I’m always losing them and try to keep two or three with me all of the time.
