10 NAILING DOWN
Small feeders work well when weather conditions are difficult, such as in high winds or extreme cold. Use cage feeders in shallow water because they disperse their contents quickly, switching to standard open-end designs in deeper venues. The feeder guarantees free grub is always close to your hook bait, also keeping everything dead still, so that fish have more time to find your bait.
13 MARGIN SLEEPER
Fishing the margins is less productive when the water turns clearer, but can still provide bonus fish during quiet spells on your main lines of attack. Fish further down the margins so that any movements you make won’t scare the fish, also dropping deeper down the near-side ledge. A good trick here is to feed up the margins to the left and right of your fishing position, switching about to keep bites coming.

14 DEADLY PUNCH
Punched bread should never be ignored in clear water. This bait, in conjunction with punch crumb or liquidised bread, often brings dour venues alive when all else fails. Feed small amounts of soft crumb or liquidised bread regularly so that the groundbait clouds the water, presenting a slow-falling piece of punched bread over the top. Size 18 to 20 fine-wire hooks are best with pole or light waggler tackle.
