News FOX SPECIMEN CUP ROUND-UP
Brown has a real purple patch
OCTOBER WINNER 
KEN started the month with a huge brace of bream topped by this
stunning bin lid of 17 lb 8 oz.
THE OCTOBER Fox Specimen Cup monthly judging was another tough one to decide with some fabulous fish every week including monster roach and river record barbel. But our own expert panel have awarded the
£250 worth of top Fox tackle to an outstanding winner in Ken Brown who notched an astonishing three weekly awards in the month during a real purple patch.
superb Fox Specimen Cup weekly awards in October. In the first issue of the month, Ken had one of the best bream
S
braces of all time with slabs of 17 lb 8 oz and 15 lb plus an 8 lb 15 oz hybrid. That catch topped a summer of hard work, fishing every
weekend from May but it had resulted in 20 doubles. But after the brace he moved onto another reservoir on the
same Hertfordshire complex for perch and got an even better catch with the best ever brace of stripys with fish of 5 lb 10 oz and 4 lb 14 oz. And in his golden spell he then added a 4 lb 13 oz stripy to

add a third October weekly award and to top it all a PB perch and near record-breaker of 5 lb 14 oz in our November 2 issue. The Tring-based 48-year-old roofer admitted: ‘I’m on a bit of
a roll I suppose and I also had a bream brace of 15 lb and 13 lb in July. ‘I do put in a bit of effort and fish every weekend, normally
getting there Friday lunchtime and fish through to the Sunday afternoon. ‘Once I had the big bream brace I decided to move across to
a different reservoir as I had a PB perch last winter of 5 lb 4 oz from it but they came later in the year in November. ‘Since the 5 lb 14 oz PB perch I’ve done a lot of trips since and
just had a couple of tench to 8 lb 2 oz and the last 50 hours went by without a bite,’ he added. So what is the next challenge for Ken who boasts other PBs including a 12 lb 3 oz tench, carp to 35 lb, catfish of 32 lb from Claydon, pike to 26 lb 8 oz, and both roach and rudd to over 2 lb?
Ken continued: ‘I’m going to fish the rivers for the next couple
of months and would like to get a chub over my PB of 6 lb 3 oz. ‘I’ve caught river perch to over 4 lb and I’d like another go for
those and try and up my flowing water best as well. ‘Then I’ll get back on the perch reservoir for February and
March as it could easily produce a British record. My 5 lb 14 oz fish only needs to eat a roach and it would be well over the record. ‘And next summer I’d like to up my tench PB. I’ve got the reservoirs plus one or two other waters up my sleeve,’ he added.
