TACKLE SPECIAL

DRENNAN SERIES 7 REELS

WHEN Drennan produced their first ever reels in 2010 they solved several problems that are common to currently available models of other brands, such as spools that are too deep to fill correctly with 100 metres of line, handles that don’t fold flat for storage and no system for recording line breaking strain on spools.

‘We designed the reel to our specifications rather than just put our name to one, and they have sold so well that we have just launched two more and have plans to increase the range further,’ said Drennan's assistant director Gary Barclay.

‘Designing the spools to take 100 metres of line without backing was one of the fundamental reasons why these reels did so well, and we also added a small recess for the knot used to attach the line to the spool to sit, and quick-change buttons printed with the line’s breaking strain that click on the front of each spool.

‘And one of the key things was the price of £32.95 for the float reel and £34.95 for the slightly bigger and slightly more powerful feeder reel, both with three spools designed to take different diameters of line. ‘It was a new market to us, but by designing the reels to be user-friendly, well built and keenly priced, we have found that they have done extremely well.’

GARDNER TACKLE SKINNED HOOK LINKS LAST spring Gardner launched a range of hook link materials covering a

diverse array of colours, to enable anglers to match specifically the colour of the lake bed they are fishing over, which is essential for camouflaging rigs accurately.

Drennan’s Series 7 reels offered new design ideas that boosted sales.

By offering fast sinking rates, strong braided inners and a user-friendly coating that doesn’t rupture with figure-of-eight loop knots, and that also strips very easily, these skinned hook links have really started to carve a niche in this busy sector of the specialist hook links market.

Sly and Disruption have slightly stiffer outer coatings, to ensure maximum separation of the hook bait and leads, while the superb Sink Skin and Chod Skin have a softer structure skin designed specifically for anglers fishing over lake beds that are scruffy, with weed and leaves, allowing the fast sinking hook links to follow the contours of the lake bed.

‘There is no doubt that the excellent 2010 sales have

been helped by us offering 20-metre spools at a very respectable and competitive RRP of just £9.99,’ said Gardner Tackle marketing and product development manager Lewis Read. ‘We will be keeping this price for 2011 to help

Gardner Tackle’s hook links in an array of colours proved very popular.
