PRODUCTS 2010 ESP CHOD RIGS

TACKLE SPECIAL

Ready-to-go Chod Rigs from ESP.

TAKING the trouble to tie ready-to-go tricky chod rigs for cute carp has been well worth it for Oxford-based specialist tackle manufacturer ESP. They’ve gone down a storm.

‘I believe we have taken ready-tied carp rigs to a new level with these. The chod rig has become perhaps one of the most successful and widely talked about rigs of the last few years, yet it can be quite difficult to tie correctly. Well now, for the first time, chod rigs, tied in exactly the same way that Terry Hearn ties his own, are readily available through all good tackle shops,’ ESP’s Dave Ellyatt told us.

‘The chod rig allows the angler a perfect pop-up presentation over soft silt (chod) and weed, and has accounted for thousands

of big carp over recent years. Utilising the best components in the business, including the super-sharp, Teflon coated ESP Stiff Rigger hook, the original stiff bristle filament and the all-important smooth rotating Japanese uni-link swivel, these rigs have been tied to exacting standards.

‘Special attention was given to the way we packaged these rigs, so that the all important curve in the bristle filament was retained and, along with extra information on how best to use these rigs, the packaging looks superb. These rigs have gone down a storm since their launch earlier this year. A brilliant, convenient product. We’ve taken the trouble so you don’t have to,’ he added. Sold in packs of three, with size 4 and 5 hooks to 20 lb bristle filament and 6 and 7 hooks to 15 lb bristle filament, they’re priced £5.95 per pack.

A real hit with the serious carper – The Daiwa Windcast Z.

KORUM KXi FREESPIN REELS THE first reels from the commercial and pleasure-angler-friendly Korum brand, the KXi Freespins seem to have everything that a lot of anglers look for in a robust free-spool reel.

Korum’s Mat Woods told us: ‘We’ve had a brilliant response in 2010 to the ultra-tough KXi Freespin reels. They’ve been selling remarkably well since they arrived on tackle shop shelves, and we’re delighted at how they’ve been received. ‘The whole concept with the KXi50 and KXi60 was to provide a reliable, sturdy reel that the modern coarse angler could use for a multitude of different angling situations. We recognised the fact that anglers demanded durability from a reel, so we made sure all the essentials were there.

‘The multi-disk front drag is really smooth, but even when under maximum load doesn’t buckle under the pressure. The line lay is just as impressive, and the Freespin facility lends itself perfectly to anglers wanting to fish with ‘sleeper’ rods for carp, or just anglers targeting fast-fighting species such as barbel, tench and even catfish,’ he added.

We’ve heard that Korum consultants have landed some monstrous big cats on these reels this year without a single problem, which is testament to the versatility of the KXi’s.

And that’s pretty impressive from a reel with an RRP of £49.99.

The KXi Freespin Reel, in action here with Korum’s Ade Kiddell, has gone down particularly well with river as well as lake anglers looking for a robust free-spool reel.
