NORWICH COMPUTERS was started ten years ago by Chris and Andy Manley, with a core focus on selling new hardware and components. Since then, the Manleys have
observed a seed change in their core business and now see 65 per cent of sales coming from repairs. They say hardware sales – especially notebooks – have dropped, mainly due to a nearby Tesco and other multiple retailers selling them at less than the indie purchase cost. Printers are no longer stocked for the same reason. Compatible electronic office supply sales complement Norwich Computers’ well-established repair business, as the Manleys find they can make more margin on a multipack of JetTec ink for the new Epson range than they would if they sold the printers themselves. As well as JetTec, the store stocks brands such as Trust and Konig, and currently uses a number of distributors including Target Components, for which they have much praise. An internet café integrated into the shop unit has also proved useful for attracting footfall. In addition to repairs, Norwich Computers also offers on-site services for their end users such as networking for local small businesses and, increasingly, home users. Data recovery is another growth area.

going over the next couple of years, Manley told PCR: “From speaking to our customers, most of them feel that mobile devices will always be in addition to PCs and notebooks, rather than replacing them, so we see ourselves supporting traditional devices for a long time to come.”
