As a University with nearly 1,300 acres of land, located in the Washington, DC/metro area, we are seeking someone to manage the daily supervision and work assignments of over 80 unionized employees engaged in landscape maintenance, landscape construction, irrigation and pest control. Duties also include purchasing equipment and supplies, budgeting, assisting in the creation and measurement of work processes, and managing snow removal efforts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Requires a Bachelor’s degree with a focus in horticulture, landscape or turf/grass management, urban forestry, or a related field is desired. Must be licensed as a Maryland Pesticide Applicator or must obtain the license within six months of hire. Certification as a Grounds Manager from the Professional Grounds Management Society desired.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the supervision of large landscape maintenance operations. Extensive knowledge in the operational requirements of a large landscape maintenance organization; thorough technical knowledge of landscape materials, equipment use, operation, and maintenance; and experience with irrigation, and snow removal. Ability to use a computer for business communications and work management required. Foreign language capability, especially in Spanish or French, is helpful.
SALARY/BENEFITS: UM offers a competitive benefits package, with a starting salary range of $64,800 to $81,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.
