McGovern departs as HotGen enters new era
Development veteran gifts majority equity to management as HotGen shapes for the future

A NEW BOARD has taken control of Brit studio HotGen, following Fergus McGovern’s decision to take a break from the games industry.
The Croydon-based outfit is best known for its huge-selling TV games published via toy giant Jakks Pacific, but has also had success on iPhone and traditional consoles. Terry Haynes has stepped up to become managing director, with McGovern reducing his stake in the company to just 15 per cent as a gift to remaining staff.
After some 26 years in the business, McGovern intends to spend more time with his family whilst considering a possible return via new ventures at some point in the future.
McGovern built his reputation via Probe Entertainment, which was responsible for a series of hits through the 1980s and beyond until eventually being sold to Acclaim in 1995. HotGen has operated as an independent ‘gun for hire’ studio for
