Activision’s DJ Hero 2features 105 in-game songs. Here are MCV’s pick of the bunch:

to give it their own unique style. Multiplayer-wise there is a host of modes including one-on-one DJ battles – with mixes that differ from the single- player versions – and an instant ‘Party Play’ mode first established in Guitar Hero 5. In fact, three players can jam at once in DJ Hero 2. Two can use a turntable accessory at the same time, while one user can take the lead and sing vocals along to tracks with a microphone peripheral. Activision is even making DJ Hero 2 available in a party bundle at retail which comes with two decks and a microphone. The game is still available as a standalone disc or in a standard bundle with one DJ turntable. DJ Hero 2 boasts a posse of world- famous DJs that players can take control of. This includes Deadmau5, David Guetta, DJ Qbert, DJ Shadow, DJ Z-Trip, RZA and more.
Edney adds: “We’ve always been extremely proud of the calibre of artists that have worked with us on the Hero franchise, not just in marketing campaigns but in the actual development of the games. “DJ Hero 2 is definitely no exception as this year we have one of the world’s hottest DJ’s, Tiësto, making his video game debut on DJ Hero 2 as well as acting as our European ambassador and spokesperson for the game.”
GOD IS A DJ
The songs are the real stars of DJ Hero 2. The original was loved for its mixes of contrasting tracks like Dizzee Rascal’s ‘Fix Up Look Sharp’ and Justice’s ‘Genesis’. The sequel is no exception, with pairs of artists going head-to-head including Kanye West and Metallica, Eminem and Lil’ Wayne, and even Lady Gaga with Deadmau5.
There is a grand total of 105 individual songs in DJ Hero 2 (see ‘On The Decks’ for the top tracks), with 83 original mixes of them.
Of course, Activision is backing the title with a marketing campaign that focuses on sampling. However the publisher believes DJ Hero’s wow factor will give the game extra promotion through word of mouth.
“When you have a unique gameplay experience and an accompanying soundtrack of the quality that we have on DJ Hero 1 and DJ Hero 2, it becomes something that is talked about and shared between friends and family,” says Edney.
“This word of mouth is extremely powerful – especially with the way social media has developed. And I can’t wait to hear what people are saying this year when they get their hands on DJ Hero 2.”
