Eurocom and Bizarre have welcomed this challenge. “It’s an interesting exercise to see if the fans can embrace a game as much as they would a new film,” says Davies. Widdows adds: “Our GoldenEye is not trying to be a film. It’s had all of these people involved but to help us create a game, not an interactive film.” James Bond will return. Almost fifty years’ worth of post-credit film messages say so. But with the future of the movies uncertain, and games firms becoming more ambitious with their 007 adventures, the manner of his return may be very different in years to come.
