Panama Eco-Adventure FAMILY JOURNEY Peru & Machu Picchu FAMILY JOURNEY

Machu Picchu is on so many travelers’Top 10 lists. After this trip your kids and teenagers will recommend it to their friends, too.You see, it’s not just the wonders of Inca culture. This multi-sport vacation includes some real thrills like whitewater rafting on the Urubamba River and mountain biking in the Inca’s SacredValley. Our local guides introduce them to llama herders and a Peruvian family who invites them to dinner. Just when it doesn’t seem like it could get any better,we ascend to Machu Picchu. This mystery city peeks out of a cloud forest, and we provide personally guided visits to suit every age. (And if you’re wondering about the altitude, our highest point is about what you’d experience at a ski resort.)

THE KIDS WILL LOVE…

• Coming face to face with llamas • Whitewater rafting on exciting rapids • Meeting local shepherds

ITINERARY

We meet in Cusco (1 night), and explore the cobblestone streets before settling into our five-star hotel across from the Sun Temple. A country walk takes us right into Inca ruins so solid and safe that it’s okay to climb on them. Later, you can relax by the pool or get a spa treatment while the kids visit a world-famous potter. On a nearby ranch, there’s a cool chance to wander among long-necked, shaggy-coat- ed llamas and alpacas. Another day, our guides teach us some Quechua words so we can return the greetings we receive when we visit a remote village school. Then we work off some steam on a moun- tain bike or take a walk before returning to our hotel in the Sacred Valley (3 nights).

Treat your family to an over-the-top eco-vacation. Familiar as its name is, Panama isn’t on everybody’s radar screen yet, but it should be! It’s easy to get to.And this country has it all: monkeys to whitewater rafting, pirates to ziplines. In one week of non-stop fun,we’ll take a shower under a water- fall…visit a tribal village in the jungle…explore uninhabited islands…and see the Canal in action. We’ll track the resplendent quetzal—a crazy beauti- ful bird that’s virtually impossible to spot anywhere else. Our local guides will join you so theadults can takeoff for a spa treatment or shopping. Best of all, this tour includes leisurely stays at two of the most beautiful hotels we’ve ever seen and dining in some of Central America’s best restaurants!

THE KIDS WILL LOVE…

• Canoeing to the village of a native tribe • Watching giant ships levitate in the Canal locks • Flying through the treetops on a zipline

ITINERARY

The week starts at our rainforest resort at Gamboa (2 nights) on the banks of the Canal. There’s time for a dip in the pool. Then we’ll get a close-up look at the massive ships moving through Miraflores Locks.

Indiana Jones-like, we’ll jump into dugout canoes on the Chagres River and pull ashore to meet and have lunch with the families in a native village. On one of many nature walks, we’ll scout for anteaters, crocodiles and hummingbirds that sip sugar water from your hand.

As the Vistadome train takes us toward Machu Picchu (2 nights) you’ll have the option to de-train early to climb the Inca Trail. With two leisurely days here, you can see the site on your own as well as with our guide, search for spectacled bears or enjoy a bird- watching walk at our luxurious hotel before we return to Cusco.
