THE KIDS WILL LOVE…

• Tubing on the Virgin River • Riding a mule into the Grand Canyon • Fossil hunting in Bryce

ITINERARY

We meet in St. George, Utah, and head for Bryce Canyon National Park (2 nights) and a cowboy cookout. By mountain bike, you can explore the red rock canyons, and we’ll go fossil hunting amid the sandstone spires and fins.

From our lodge on the Grand Canyon’s North Rim (1 night), mules carry us 2300 feet down into the canyon. (Or join your guide for a descent on foot.) You’ll end the day with one of the best sunsets ever. At the Anasazi ruins on Walhalla Plateau, we pay an amazing visit to one of America’s most important archeological sites.

En route to Zion National Park (2 nights), you’ll slalom on sand at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. Then, on one watery day, we walk along the Virgin River and into the flowing streams in the slot canyons of Zion Narrows. And you’ll glide between the red rock bluffs on a tubing expedition. On our final day, there’s time for some shopping before we return to St. George.

Spectacular as Montana’s Glacier National Park is,we all know that scenery alone isn’t the ideal way to satisfy young travelers. That’s fine with us because, in fact, this region has a rich variety of activities to keep everyone happy. We’ll take kid-friendly hikes of course—to see glaciers, waterfalls and abandoned mines. In the company of a naturalist, the odds improve that you’ll see moose, deer, mountain goats and other wildlife. And you’ll get a horseback riding les- son before heading into the plains for a cowboy adventure on a working ranch. The grownups will enjoy the well- sited lodges where we stay…dinners on local specialties (while the younger set gets a kids’ night out at a pizzeria)…and excep- tional hikes in what many regard as America’s most beautiful park.

THE KIDS WILL LOVE…

• Horseback riding with cowboys • Rafting down the Flathead River • Exploring with a member of the Blackfeet tribe

ITINERARY

We meet in Whitefish (1 night) and take a thrilling gondola ride up Big Mountain. You get to choose your route to Avalanche Lake: a whitewater raft or walk through a cool gorge. Later, settle into our timbered lodge in East Glacier (2 nights). The kids love the high- mountain lake cruises, eye-popping walks through wildflower meadows and Junior Ranger activities. A friend of ours, one of the Blackfeet people, shares the history, mythology and cul- ture of his tribe through songs and stories.

Surrounded by snow-capped peaks, Many Glacier (2 nights) is the ideal starting point for some amazing walks. We’ll see who spots the first elk or bald eagle...and have a picnic at a waterfall…then do some unbelievable star- gazing together. The kids will see glaciers like they’ve only read about in school and rub elbows with the folks who live and work on a Big Sky ranch. Then give everybody a camera for the Going-to-the-Sun Road, considered the most scenic in America.
